Der Abbruch

Im Zuge des Abbruchs wurden mehrere Gebäude, darunter das 96 Meter hohe Hochhaus in der Großen Gallusstraße, mit insgesamt 340.000 Kubikmeter umbautem Raum rückgebaut.

Der Abbruch der Gebäude erfolgte in konventioneller Art und Weise, indem die Gebäude nach der Entkernung von Baggern mit Hydraulikzangen Schritt für Schritt abgetragen wurden. Beim Rückbau des Hochhauses wurden zunächst zwei kleinere Bagger auf das Dach des obersten Stockwerks gestellt. Die Bagger arbeiteten sich Stockwerk für Stockwerk nach unten. Ab einer Höhe von 35 Meter konnte dann ein größer Bagger, ein sogenannter Longfront, vom Gelände aus operieren und die Arbeiten abschließen.

Während der gesamten Abbrucharbeiten war ein Autokran im Einsatz, der eine große Schutzmatte vor den abzubrechenden Gebäuden platzierte. Die Abbruchbereiche wurden ständig bewässert, um die Staubbildung zu reduzieren.
